Joseph Chung

Joseph took his first breath underwater in 1981 and became a professional diving instructor in 1989, to this date he has certified more than 1000 students. In 1994, he received his Course Director training from PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructor) at their Headquarters in California, United States. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Sport Management (EU), European Business School – Cambridge, England. For 15 years Joseph held the position of Head of Training at Borneo Divers Training Institute in Sabah Malaysia, also included on his resume is Dive Resort Manager and Dive Retail Outlet Manager. In addition, he is a trainer for Emergency First Response (Primary First Aid and Secondary Care) for Adults and Care for Children.


He is a member of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, Malaysia Institute of Management, Malaysia Institute of Human Resource Management and Cambridge Association of Managers.

Work History

Joseph has been with Borneo Divers since 1989 as head of training and the development of human capital for the organization and outside the organization. He develops and trains dive guides and dive instructors to support the diving industry.

Promoting tourism in Sabah is high on his agenda, representing many committees in a number of Non-Profit Organizations such as Eco Challenge 2000, MTU International Triathlon and Dragon Boat Racing. He is also actively involved in the preparation of Dive Education Programs such as Instructor Development Courses, Emergency First Response in the Workplace and Marine Conservation Programs, such as Reef Check and Project AWARE.

Instrumental in developing the National Vocational Skills Standard (NOSS) for Recreational Scuba Diving for the National Vocational Training Council (NVTC) in Malaysia. This has led to the establishment of Scuba Diving Standards for the diving industry in Malaysia.

He has completed the Train-The-Trainer program for Tourist Guide and Event Management as a training provider for Graduate training Schemes.

As a Dive leader, he works in partnership with Dive Centers, Dive Resorts, and Dive Professionals, and the Ministry of Human Resources to provide unparalleled training programs to increase human capital for the dive industry in Borneo.
